If you think that your device is using more data than expected it could be for a number of reasons:
- Your device may be opening and closing data sessions each time it sends data. Ideally you should configure your device to open a data session and leave it open. Some GPS trackers will operate in the open/send/close mode rather than open/send lots of updates/close mode. Check with the device user guide to check it is set in your preferred mode.
- Even though no data is being sent, some servers send a "stay awake" or "keep-alive packets" messages at regular intervals. This can soon increase your data consumption. Normally servers and devices can be configured to reduce the number and frequency of messages being sent.
