Does your GPS show a location different to where the GPS device is actually located?
If you are using one of our SIMs in a GPS device and have started the GPS for the first time or in a long while, you make find that the location is somewhere completely different, may be China!
The GPS location is nothing to do with the SIM, but as we get quite a few support questions about this issue. If you have any issues with your GPS tracker or device other than a SIM connectivity problem, please contact your device supplier.
But here's why your GPS may think its somewhere else...
Where am I?
Imagine going to sleep for a long time. When you go to sleep, you know where you are. But whilst you are asleep, someone moves you to a new place. You wake up and have no idea where you are until you start to look around and process whats around you. After a while, you will figure out where you are.
This is what happens when a GPS device goes to sleep and is moved.
A GPS device takes a little while to establish its location when it first starts up. Sometimes it may take a few seconds to obtain a position fix and sometimes it may take up to 10 minutes depending on when and where it last locked on to a GPS signal.
Helping your GPS find itself
When you start your GPS device make sure it has a clear view of the sky outside. Putting it on a window ledge may not be suitable, nor will it being inside a building.
Many GPS devices are manufactured and tested in the far East, this is why when you first start your GPS, it may show a location in China.
If the location given by the GPS is not where it actually is, then leave the GPS tracker or device in clear view of the sky and allow it to find out where it is actually located.
